Meet Suzy

I am a Yorkshire girl through and through and live with my husband and our teenage daughters at the foot of the iconic Cow and Calf Rocks in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.

Hi Suzy. I just wanted to say a huge “Thank you” for all the beautiful photos we have of Matt and Becka from our shoots since they were little. Whatever age and stage they’ve been, you’ve completely put them at ease and captured them at their natural best; totally unposed, just out and about doing things they love with our beloved pets in tow! We’ve got such beautiful images spanning their childhood with the expressions which truly show their personalities at the time and evoke such fantastic memories now they’re older. The images are priceless and make me smile every day.

Before Photography took hold I pursued an exciting career as a lawyer (on both sides of the Pennines!) and took up photography when our daughters were born; They were my first inspiration and as friends started to ask me to photograph their children my business grew from small beginnings. That was all 15 years ago and I enjoy meeting and photographing the families who let me into their lives just as much now as I did then.

I specialise in photographing babies, children and families and never really see photography as a job, it’s simply something I love to do…Light is the key and the starting point for every shoot. There is beauty all around, the Yorkshire landscape with its wild moors, gentle meadows and streams together with landmark locations such as Bolton Abbey and Brimham Rocks make it a perfect playground for a family photographer.

The word “Photography” comes from the Greek meaning “drawing with light,” which is rather ironic as art was my worst subject at school! That said, I enjoy art galleries, one of my favourite haunts being the National Portrait gallery, particularly the photography section which exhibits some of the very best in contemporary photographic work. My all time favourite photographer, who inspired me from the very outset, is the incomparable French black and white photographer Jean Loup Sieff.

About Me 1

Our girls are almost grown (above and below) so I have been through most of the stages, weathered the moods, got through the toddler tantrums and shared the highs(and the lows)of living with teens and as a result am rarely fazed.

After some thought I have included some of my travel and street photography images on the website; Most family holidays are punctuated by eye rolling from our daughters (and occasionally my husband!) as I stop, camera poised! The photographs I take have led to a series of personal projects some of which can be viewed and purchased through the Personal Work portfolio of the website.

If you enjoy black and white photography, see it as an art form and have enjoyed looking through my portfolios please get in touch; I would be delighted to make some timeless and compelling images of you and your family. Remember…I love black and white imagery, it is my main medium but I do appreciate that sometimes clients want colour photographs and I am more than happy with this. I have for this reason included some examples of my colour images in the portfolios on the website
